The Churches Ushers Union of Colorado began as the Denver City Ushers Union in 1939. It expanded from Denver, Colorado to Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Churches Ushers Union of Colorado, Inc. was organized on June 18, 1946 at Central Baptist Church, by the pastor, the late Rev. M.K. Curry. Its first officers were: Osbie Herold, President; Velma Moore Flintroy, Secretary; D. F. Mallard, Treasurer; Essie J. Hester, Financial Secretary; Mildred Gray, Chaplain; Blossom Lee Ashworth, Music Director; Robert Lee Christopher, Publicity Chairman.
1949 – Colorado President Herold attended the National Convention in Little Rock, Arkansas, and our State joined in that year. President Herold was elected Sergeant-at-Arms and served one year.
1950 – In Boston, Massachusetts, President Herold was elected to the National Board of Directors and served faithfully for 21 years.
1964 – Usher James E. Anderson was elected as National 4th Vice President.
1972 – Usher Ethel White was the first recipient in the State of Colorado to receive the William H. Davis Honor Club Award.
1980 – James E. Anderson was elected to serve as National President in Memphis, Tennessee. He served four years.
1980 – 1984 Honorary Usher, Dr. Joyce Marie Davis served as National Chairman of the Music Department and Usher Ruth Anderson served as National Corresponding Secretary.
1985 – 1989 - Usher Willa Van Austin served as Chairman of the Alumni Department. In 1989 Willa Taylor served as Co-Counselor of the National Young Adult Department.
1996 – Usher Darnell Ward was elected as President of the National Junior and Young Peoples Department. Usher Ruth I. Jones served as Chairman of the National Board of Directors.
2006 – Usher Helene Ward was elected to serve on the National Board of Directors and was re-elected to serve from 2006 – 2012.
2012 – Usher LaTasha Pettis was elected the 22nd National Young Adult President. Usher Chanel Patrick was elected President of the Junior & Young Peoples Department.
2018 – At the National Convention in Minneapolis, MN, Usher Ruth I Jones was installed as President. Colorado hosted the National Convention during the following years: 1951, 1961, 1978 and 2007.
Since our beginning in 1946, Nineteen Presidents have served faithfully within the Churches Ushers Union of Colorado, Inc. and our current State President is Bro. Anthony Dabney.
